WHAT IS ART THERAPY?

Art Therapy is a profession within the field of mental health that aims to accompany the individual during their therapeutic process. To carry out this process, the art therapist will provide the client with artistic materials and tools that will allow and facilitate a channel for artistic expression.⁣

In this way, the client will find a space where emotions can be expressed. Often people do not find the right words to express them, but when they come across artistic materials, they discover a new way of expression, and it is the artistic work that reflects and helps to understand what is happening.⁣

We must bear in mind that Art Therapy does not focus on the work as an aesthetic product, but on the creative process and what happens during it. It is important to remember that the aim of this therapy is not to obtain an exhibition work, but to accompany and provide the client with a space for expression.⁣

WHAT IS NOT ART THERAPY?

It is not esotericism.⁣
It is not an art class.⁣
It is not image interpretation.⁣
It is not deciphering of colours, nor of signs.⁣
It is not painting a book of mandalas.⁣
It is not the use and/or following of a technique. ⁣
It is not the production of an artistic object that is intended to be exhibited or evaluated.⁣
